Speedtype guide
Using English and Marathi practice modes
How language selection changes the passage and comparison rules, how to prepare your input method, and why scores from different writing systems should be kept separate.
The Marathi practice passages are original Speedtype content and were manually reviewed by Saurabh on August 5, 2026. Passage corrections can be reported through the contact page.
What the language setting changes
The language selector changes the passage pool used by Practice, Daily, Race, and private multiplayer rooms. It does not change your operating system's keyboard layout. Select or install an English or Marathi input method on your device before starting a run.
Speedtype stores the language with each completed result. Keep English and Marathi history separate when reviewing progress because the scripts, input methods, character composition, and passage structure differ.
English comparison rules
- Capitalization is significant:
Speedandspeeddo not match. - Punctuation must match the target passage.
- Curly quotation marks are normalized to their straight equivalents.
- Space or Enter commits a word and moves the reading position forward.
If Caps Lock, autocorrect, or a browser extension changes the input, the result may not represent manual typing. The input field asks browsers to disable correction features, but device behavior can vary.
Marathi comparison rules
Marathi passages use Devanagari Unicode text. The app applies Unicode compatibility normalization before comparison, but it still expects the same visible sequence as the target. A different input method may produce a sequence that looks similar while using different code points, so report repeatable mismatches instead of assuming the scorer is correct.
Marathi has no upper- and lower-case distinction. Capitalization rules therefore affect English text but not Devanagari text. Punctuation and spacing remain significant in both modes.
Difficulty labels
Basic, Moderate, and Advanced are Speedtype content labels, not standardized language qualifications. Basic passages use shorter sentences and familiar vocabulary. Moderate passages introduce longer clauses and more punctuation. Advanced passages use denser phrasing and less frequent vocabulary.
Difficulty should be selected for readable, controlled practice. If a passage is difficult because its meaning or grammar is unclear, that is a content problem rather than a useful typing challenge.
Before starting a Marathi run
- Enable your preferred Devanagari or Marathi input method.
- Open a normal text field and verify a short word before beginning the timed run.
- Select Marathi and Basic in Speedtype.
- Use a one-minute run while learning the layout.
- Review the exact highlighted character when a mismatch occurs.
How passage quality is reviewed
Practice passages are maintained as Speedtype content rather than copied quotations. Before release they are checked for coherent meaning, spelling, punctuation, and an appropriate difficulty label. Marathi drafts also require review by a fluent reader. This process is documented so generated word lists cannot silently return to the product.
Include the first sentence, selected difficulty, and the correction when reporting a problem to appspeedtype@gmail.com.
