Gross WPM divides attempted keystrokes by five and by elapsed minutes. Net WPM subtracts unresolved character errors before applying the same calculation. The timer begins on the first accepted keystroke. The methodology page publishes the formulas, examples, and known limitations.
Yes for English. A capital E does not match a lowercase e. Marathi has no uppercase and lowercase distinction, but its Unicode characters, punctuation, and spacing must still match the target passage.
The current word can be corrected before it is committed. Space or Enter commits the word, after which Backspace cannot cross that boundary. Attempted keystrokes include characters typed again after a correction, while the error count represents unresolved mismatches in the final input.
No account is required for Practice or a bot Race. Firebase sign-in with Google or email and password is required for Daily, personal cloud history, and private multiplayer rooms. Local settings and runs remain available in the current browser without signing in.
No. The History page lists your own local runs and, when signed in and available, your own cloud-saved runs. Speedtype does not currently operate a public global ranking.
Daily uses one three-minute passage per language for the current date. It requires sign-in so the result can be associated with the account and the local streak can be updated. A Daily score is still a practice result, not a certified measurement.
No. Multiplayer is currently an account-only private-room feature. A host creates a room and shares its code or link. Other signed-in users join with that code. There is no public lobby.
They should be reviewed separately. The writing systems, input methods, character composition, and passage structure differ. Speedtype stores the selected language with each result for that reason.
No. Results are informal practice measurements affected by passage, duration, language, keyboard, browser, and input method. Speedtype does not issue professional or academic typing certification.
Use the Contact page. For scoring, include the mode, language, duration, target text, typed text, and result. For a passage correction, include its first sentence, language, difficulty, and the proposed correction.
The methodology page includes exact formulas and examples taken from the automated scoring tests.
